Course Overview
The Resuscitation Australia ALS2 course, delivered by Statpacks Plus instructors, is an advanced resuscitation training program designed for healthcare professionals responsible for managing critically ill patients and leading resuscitation efforts. ALS2 builds on foundational life support knowledge by introducing more complex clinical skills, advanced interventions, and leadership strategies for managing cardiac arrests and peri-arrest situations.
The course follows a blended learning model. Participants must first complete a comprehensive, self-paced eLearning component covering a wide range of ALS topics. This includes the ALS and BLS algorithms, recognition and management of arrhythmias, airway management and ventilation strategies, safe use of defibrillators, peri-arrest pacing and cardioversion, post-resuscitation care, and key legal, ethical, and cultural considerations. Learning is reinforced through high-quality video content, interactive assessments, and scenario-based modules. All eLearning modules must be completed to 100% accuracy prior to the practical training day. Access to these modules is retained for four years to support refresher learning and CPD compliance.
The face-to-face training day includes focused clinical workshops on airway management, pacing, and cardioversion, as well as 18 high-fidelity simulation scenarios tailored to each participant’s clinical role and scope of practice. These scenarios are designed to develop clinical leadership and enhance the participant’s ability to manage resuscitation as a team leader. During this session, participants are assessed on technical skills (such as CPR quality, defibrillation, and drug administration) and non-technical skills (including leadership, communication, situational awareness, and prioritisation). Participants must achieve an average score of 6 or above on a 1–10 Likert scale to be awarded the ALS2 credential.
The ALS2 course is highly interactive, hands-on, and contextualised to reflect each participant's healthcare setting—whether that’s a metropolitan hospital, a rural practice, or a remote clinical post. Instructors use a dynamic and evolving scenario library to ensure simulations are realistic, relevant, and reflective of current best practice.
Key Learning Outcomes
Participants will gain the knowledge and skills to:
-
Lead cardiac arrest resuscitation using the BLS and ALS algorithms
-
Recognise shockable and non-shockable rhythms (VF, VT, PEA, asystole)
-
Manage reversible causes of cardiac arrest using the 4 Hs and 4 Ts framework
-
Perform advanced airway management and ventilation techniques
-
Safely operate defibrillators and deliver external pacing and cardioversion
-
Appropriately select and administer medications in cardiac arrest
-
Apply structured approaches to post-resuscitation care
-
Demonstrate strong leadership, communication, and team coordination under pressure
-
Understand the legal, ethical, and cultural dimensions of ALS practice
Assessment
-
eLearning: Mandatory knowledge checks and assessments throughout (100% accuracy required to progress)
-
Face-to-Face: Continuous skills assessment across simulations
-
Scored on a 1–10 Likert scale
-
Minimum average of 6 required to pass
-
Focus on both clinical competence and leadership capability
-
Certification
Upon successful completion of both course components, participants receive a digital ALS2 credential issued by Resuscitation Australia. This credential is valid for 4 years, and participants retain access to all eLearning materials for the duration to support self-guided refresher learning.
Important Information
-
Completion of the eLearning is mandatory prior to the practical training day
-
Participants must present their Certificate of Completion on arrival
-
No entry to the face-to-face component is permitted without prior eLearning completion
-
Scenarios are tailored to your clinical context, ensuring relevant, real-world learning
